100 CENTRE ST, Jan 22 – A man is on trial for a murder committed on 152nd Street near St. Nicholas Avenue in Harlem on March 7, 2023, before NYS Justice Gregory Carro, whom Inner City Press has previously covered in the Luigi Mangione case he also presides over.
For this trial, his large courtroom was nearly empty. Inner City Press live tweeted:
NYPD Detective Garcia on the stand.
ADA: Did you go to 453 West 152?
Garcia: I did. [The murder occurred on March 7, 2023 - defendant was arrested on Sept 5, 2023].
Garcia: I was told by the super- Defense: Objection! Judge Carro: Sustained
ADA: I’m going to show you another DD5, it’s People’s 17. What did you do?
Garcia: We try to conduct a daylight canvas. We look for bullets. The incident presumably had happened in the evening.
ADA: Was there video? Garcia: No, it wasn’t operable. So we got other videos.
Garcia: We got video from 847 St. Nicholas Avenue ADA: Was it continuous or motion sensor triggered?
Garcia: Continuous. [Blurry video shown]
Cross examination Defense: You didn’t know who the suspect was - but you tracked a person? Garcia: Yes
Next witness is Sgt Tyler Morales; his body-worn camera video is shown.
ADA: Once your camera was turned off what did you do?
Morales: We canvassed the train station on 155 and St. Nick.
Cross: Defense: There was a shell casing on the bed? Morales: Yes.
Defense: The female you spoke with in the building, she said she had only been in that apartment twice? Morales: Correct.
Judge Carro: Break.
