After Insider Trading Ex-Rep Buyer Guilty Sentencing Pushed to Sept 19 But Letters Sealed

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 31 -- On July 25, 2022 the SDNY prosecutors unsealed an indictment of ex Rep Stephen Buyer for illegal trading on two mergers.

On July 27, 2022 Buyer accompanied by his wife was in Courtroom 17B of 500 Pearl Street to be arraigned. Inner City Press live tweeted it here.

On March 10, 2023 again with Inner City Press in the courtroom as it was throughout the trial, Buyer was convicted on all counts. His sentencing was set for July 11. Afterward, he shook his head as if in disbelief. But it was a trial of trades and timing.  More on Substack here.

  Jump cut to July 31, when sentencing was to occur. Within any letter yet being in the docket, the sentencing was put off, due to last-minute allegations of conflict of interest in counsel. CJA counsel was consulted.

Afterward, as Inner City Press prepared to file to unseal, this but not the letters was docketed: "vMinute Entry for proceedings held before Judge Richard M. AUSA Kiersten Fletcher and AUSA Margaret Graham present; Also present is Special Agent, FBI Brandon Racz; Defendant Stephen Buyer present with attorneys Henry Asbill, Oliva Rauh, and Daniel Alonso; conference held;case to be recalled; -------------:recall------------:all appearance remain the same with the exception of AUSA Graham and SA Racz; AUSA Graham and SA Racz not present; CJA counsel Samidh Guha present and appointed as conflict counsel; Court discusses with counsel docketing of conflict letters; defense to submit letter by 8/2/23 re: docketing; government to respond by 8/3/23;

submission schedule re: conflict is as follows: Orrick to submit by 8/14/23; CJA counsel Guha to submit by 8/21/23; government to submit by 8/28/23; conference/sentence scheduled for 9/19/23 at 9:00 am; government to submit letter re: grand jury by 8/3/23; government to submit response to defense restitution letter by 8/7/23. (Sentencing set for 9/19/2023).
