SDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 8 – Sina Moayedi, the owner of a construction company Montage who pled guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and bank fraud, conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official, and aggravated identity theft in connection with a 25-year fraud on the United States Government, was up for sentencing on December 8 before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Jed S. Rakoff.

Inner City Press was there, behind a dozen of the defendant's family members, in the courtroom gallery. Thread:

Defense is asking for time served. Defense lawyer: He wants to work for Habitat for Humanity, he knows construction.

Judge Rakoff: He devoted decades to criminal conduct.  Judge: He was greedy and he knew his services were shoddy.  AUSA: We're asking for 12 years, he "deployed fabricated domains" and lied in his sentencing letter.

Moayedi: I've been in the MDC jail, I feel decades older. I have a beautiful wife and three teenage daughters [Sobs] I am begging for mercy

Judge Rakoff: Unlike some fraudsters he did not target widows. But corruption is corrosive. I sentence you to ten years.
