NYS COURTHOUSE, June 30 – Nisean Graves stabbed and killed Antonio Eggleston, a stranger to him, on 7th Avenue and 30th Street in Manhattan on June 9.
On June 30, Graves was presented in court. Inner City Press was there - it applied to shoot video but was told, only stills, and no photo of the defendant in handcuffs. See here.
The Assistant DA described other unprovoked attacks by Graves. His Legal Aid lawyer said he would defer any argument for release from custody. A decision is due on September 7.
DANY Bragged that on June 9, 2023, at approximately 8:15 a.m., Eggleston was in Midtown with a friend when GRAVES approached and punched him without any provocation. The confrontation continued and spilled over into a fight in the middle of the street on West 30th Street and 7th Avenue. During the fight, GRAVES pulled out a knife and swung several times at Eggleston while holding it. As Eggleston, who was unarmed, kicked at GRAVES, GRAVES stabbed him in the chest. GRAVES walked away and Eggleston fell to the ground, bleeding. Eggleston was pronounced dead at the hospital. GRAVES was immediately arrested near the scene. When arrested, officers recovered a bloody knife from his pocket.
Assistant D.A.s Adam Birnbaum and Katelyn Damanis are handling the prosecution of the case. D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, in particular Detectives Robert Rivera (Midtown South Precinct Detective Squad) and Oscar Diaz (Manhattan South Homicide Squad).

So when Kurt Wheelock got the email from Alvin Bragg's spokespeople about the arraignment of a madness who'd killed a stranger with a knife in Midtown each in the month, he leapt at it.
Over to 100 Centre, 11th floor, when the arraignment had not yet started. They got in the jury box, with the NYS Courts officer telling them, no video, stills only, and nothing with the defendant in handcuffs.
When they brought Nisean Graves in, they never unhandcuffed him. Kurt Wheelock took a photo, which made a shutter noise.
He listened as Graves pleaded not guilty, and the Legal Aid lawyer consented to him ongoing detention. He'd slashed before, and tried to rape a minor. None of that was in Alvin Bragg's later press release. But Kurt put it in his story, and wondered
