SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 26 – A murder in Inwood in Upper Manhattan on May 30 gave rise to an arraignment for a hate crime on June 26 in lower Manhattan. Inner City Press was there.
Maximito Polanco was stubbed more than 40 times inside the Arden Street apartment he shared with Hosameldin Ismail, 34, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On June 26 Inner City Press went to 111 Centre Street, where Hosameldin Ismail was brought into the courtroom and pled not guilty. Assistant District Attorney Kendall described the decedent being partial decapitated, and Ismael admitting, on NYPD body cam video, that he did it because Polanco is or was Latino.
During the proceeding, Ismael turned to look out at the courtroom gallery, where barely a dozen people sat, including two photographers in the front of the courtroom.
Filings running through August 24, then September 12.
Inner City Press' research finds a 2010 crime at a Trump casino in Atlantic City: "22-year-old Hosameldin Ismail was caught on camera at Trump Plaza allegedly beating and robbing a disabled a 61-year-old Vietnam veteran, police said."
The ages line up.
