EDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 17 – Former NYPD officer Heather Busch was charged in connection with a bribery scheme involving doling out tow truck jobs in exchange for money.
On February 16, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York Judge Ann M. Donnelly held a Busch's sentencing. Inner City Press went to Brooklyn and covered it in-person.
Busch sobbed as she told Judge Donnelly that she will suffer as a felon. Her defense lawyer, who asked to take off the mask he left just below his nose, urged no jail time, saying the deterrent effect was already being felt in the NYPD.
The public reporting of the arrest included alleged use of racial epithets by co-defendants, and drug trafficking, and mentioned five years in prison being on the table.
Judge Donnelly ultimately assigned a six month sentence, to be followed by a year of supervised release - but no urine testing for drugs. Surrender will be in 90 days. The other counts were dismissed.
Inner City Press watched down the long stone staircase as Busch and her attorney headed out into Cadman Plaza, then later headed up. Vlog here.
The case is US v. Busch, et al., 21-cr-254 (EDNY 2021, Donnelly)
